How do I sync Outlook contacts to my diocesan mobile Contacts app?

Includes checking you're signed in and resyncing if you have issues on iPhones and Android Phones

Notes: Contacts are synced by default on iPhones and iPads however you may need to check the settings in case you need to re-enter your password or wish to re-sync your contacts if you have any issues.

Syncing with the Contacts app

This is controlled in the iPhone Settings app

  1. Go to ⚙️Settings > 📱Apps > Contacts
  2. Select Contacts Accounts
  3. Select Diocese of St Albans
  4. Ensure Contacts is enabled
  5. Contacts in your Outlook should show in the Apple Contacts and Apple Phone apps.
  6. For troubleshooting select the relevant link:
    Account not authenticated? > | Contacts not correct? Resync >


Account not authenticated?


  1. Select Re-enter Password
  2. Enter your diocesan credentials if requested

Contacts not correct? Resync

  1. Switch Contacts off
  2. A message for Turn Off Contacts will appear
  3. Select Delete from my iPhone.
    1. This will remove any previously synced contacts from your iPhone. It will not delete your contacts from Outlook.
  4. Once complete, re-enable Contacts to sync again.


Contacts on Android Phones

Syncing the Microsoft Outlook app with the native Contacts app

  1. Enable Contact Sync in Outlook App (Android)
    • Open the Outlook app on your phone
    • Tap your profile icon (top left).
    • Go to ⚙️Settings > Contacts
    • Toggle Sync contacts to ON
  2. Check Android Account Sync Settings
    • Open the⚙️Settings app on your phone
    • Go to Passwords, passkeys and accounts
    • Select Outlook
    • Select Account sync
    • Ensure Contacts sync is enabled.
    • To manually sync:
      • Select the 3 dots top right
      • Select Sync Now

Note: If syncing is enabled but there's no contacts in the contacts app, try disabling contact sync and re-enabling.
