My Authenticator app codes for MFA / 2FA do not work or show an error

Fix multi-factor authentication codes generated by an iPhone or Android mobile authenticator app

Note: Authenticator apps include Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, Oracle (desktop), LastPass Authenticator etc. Apply the solutions below to whichever authenticator app you use for the account that is not working.

Warning: Codes in the authenticator app changes typically every 30 seconds. Enter the code that's currently showing however if it switches to a new code before you finish typing, use the new code instead.

  1. Kill the app and restart.
  2. Check notifications are enabled for the app.
  3. Check the mobile's clock is synced. In settings choose to set time automatically.
    1. Also check your computer's clock is synced: Windows > | Mac >
  4. Android only: Disable battery optimisation for the app.
  5. Android only: Clear app cache.
  6. Try last: If one account is not working, re-authenticate the account in the app.
  7. Ensure you are using the latest version of the authenticator app.
