Search for the original file non-PDF version
If the original file, before it was converted to PDF, originated from the St Albans Diocese then it is always best to locate and edit this file rather than convert a PDF back to an Office files so you can preserve all formatting.
The search tools in the web versions of SharePoint or OneDrive are quicker and better to use than searching synced copies on your computer.

Note: On Diocesan iPhones and iPads the Microsoft 365 app is already installed. You can also find it in the Company Portal app.
- Open the Microsoft 365 app (icon shown on right).
- Open the PDF file from SharePoint, OneDrive or your device.
- Select Convert to Word bottom left.
- If you wish to edit the file on a computer, save the file to SharePoint or OneDrive then open it from your computer.
Alternatively:
- Open the Microsoft 365 app.
- Go to the Apps tab bottom right.
- Choose PDF Tools.
- Choose the file you wish to convert.
Using CloudConvert - PDF to Multiple File Formats and remove PDF Passwords

CloudConvert is an online file conversion service that supports various formats.

Open your web browser and go to the CloudConvert website cloudconvert.com.
- Click on the Select Files button to upload your PDF file.

Locate and select the PDF file you wish to convert. CloudConvert will display a list of conversion formats. Locate and click on the file format you'd like to convert to from the list of available options.
- For Word select Document > DOCX
- For Excel select Spreadsheet > XLSX
- If you just want to remove a password from the PDF select Document > PDF and ensure you enter the password in step 4 below and under Encryption choose remove
- Select the spanner icon
for additional option, eg. pages to convert, PDF password etc. Select Okay to save.
- Select Convert to start converting the file. The time required for conversion depends on the file size and the speed of your internet connection.

After the conversion is complete, CloudConvert will provide a download link for the converted file. Click on the link to download the file to your computer
Using Foxit PDF Editor - PDF to Multiple File Formats

Note: If you require regular use of exporting, organising, protecting, redacting of PDF files etc for your role you may request a Foxit PDF Editor license by raising a support ticket.

Using Adobe Acrobat Pro - PDF to Multiple File Formats

Acrobat Pro subscriptions are expensive and are therefore not typically provided. Instead we use an alternative called Foxit PDF Editor.
If you do have an Adobe Acrobat license you can export a PDF using the following steps:
- Open the PDF
- Under Tools, choose 'Export PDF'
- Choose the file format
- Export
Using Snipping Tool on a Windows Computer - PDF to Images
- Open the PDF
- Open the Snipping Tool app
- Choose New
- Your screen will go grey.
- Use the cursor to draw where you would like to copy the snip.
- Save the clip as a file
