# How do I change the default font in the Microsoft Office 365 apps?

## Change your default font in Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint

**Note:** Microsoft's default font is Aptos; previously it was Calibri.

The diocesan font is Barlow. See the **[Diocese of St Albans Branding Guide \>](https://help.stalbansdiocese.org/branding-guide?hsLang=en)**

If you are sharing a document and the recipient's computer does not have the fonts installed that you used then their default font will be used instead. To retain the fonts you used, save and share the document as a PDF file as the fonts will be embedded in the file.

### Change your default font in Word Desktop

**Tip:** With this method you configure the document as you would like (fonts, margins etc) and then save the document as the default template called Normal.dotm. This file is located at **%appdata%\\Microsoft\\Templates**

### Change your default font in Excel Desktop

1. Open Excel
2. Go to **File** \> **Options** \> **General** \> **When creating new workbooks**
3. Under **Use this as the default font** select the font you wish to use and change the size if required.

4. You can also set a default template to include other formatting when you start Excel:

**Tip:** Video @ 2:40 - Save Book.xltx to the User StartUp trusted location **%appdata%\\Microsoft\\Excel\\XLSTART** then you don't need administrator permission

### Change your default font in Outlook Desktop

1. In **Outlook** \> **File** \> **Options** \> **Mail** \> **Stationery and Fonts...**
2. Change for **New email messages** and **Replying or forwarding messages**

- In **Powerpoint** \> **View** \> **Slide Master**
