# How do I enable the on-screen keyboard in Windows?

## Use an on-screen keyboard with a touchscreen or if you're having trouble with your laptop's / USB / bluetooth keyboard

### Enable the on-screen keyboard from the lock screen

 If you computer is locked, on the sign-in screen select the accessibility icon in the bottom right:

- **Windows 11** 
    - Toggle **On-screen keyboard** to **On**

- **Windows 10**  
    - Select **On-Screen Keyboard**

### Enable the on-screen keyboard in Windows

#### Using a keyboard shortcut

- Press the Windows key ![windows-icon-32-png](https://help.stalbansdiocese.org/hs-fs/hubfs/windows-icon-32-png.png?width=32&height=32&name=windows-icon-32-png.png) + **CTRL** + the letter **O** (for Oscar)

#### In Settings

1. Open **Settings**
2. Select **Accessibility** (Windows 11) or **Ease of Access** (Windows 10)
3. Select **Keyboard** (Windows 11 right side / Windows 10 left side)
4. Toggle **On-screen keyboard** (Windows 11) or **Use the On-Screen Keyboard** to **On** 
     1. **Windows 11**

### **Close the on-screen keyboard**

- Select the **X** in the top right corner of the keyboard (marked in green above)
