How do I enable the on-screen keyboard in Windows?

Use an on-screen keyboard with a touchscreen or if you're having trouble with your laptop's / USB / bluetooth keyboard

Enable the on-screen keyboard from the lock screen

If you computer is locked, on the sign-in screen select the accessibility icon in the bottom right:
  • Windows 11
    • Toggle On-screen keyboard to On
  • Windows 10
    • Select On-Screen Keyboard

Enable the on-screen keyboard in Windows

Using a keyboard shortcut

  • Press the Windows key windows-icon-32-png + CTRL + the letter O (for Oscar)

In Settings

  1. Open Settings
  2. Select Accessibility (Windows 11) or Ease of Access (Windows 10)
  3. Select Keyboard (Windows 11 right side / Windows 10 left side)
  4. Toggle On-screen keyboard (Windows 11) or Use the On-Screen Keyboard to On

Close the on-screen keyboard

  • Select the X in the top right corner of the keyboard (marked in green above)
