I can't access my diocesan email, calendar and files on my personal mobile or tablet

Requirements to access your diocesan Microsoft 365 account on your personally owned Apple or Android smartphone or tablet

App Protection Policies are in force when signing into Microsoft 365 accounts on Apple and Android
devices. This ensures St Albans DBF retains control over the diocesan data held without the need to
manage personal devices.

Access to your diocesan email, calendar and files on a personal Apple (iPhone / iPad) or Android device is allowed on the following conditions:

  • The device is running the latest Apple (iOS / iPadOS) or Android operating system and security patch.
  • The device is not jailbroken (Apple) or rooted (Android).
  • The official Microsoft 365 apps are used, installed from the Apple Store or Google Play store.
    • For emails and calendars the Microsoft Outlook app can be used.
    • For files the Microsoft OneDrive, Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft 365 apps can be used.
    • For communication the Microsoft Teams app can be used.
    • For internet browser access the Microsoft Edge app can be used.
    • Additional apps are available for other Microsoft 365 services, such as Microsoft Forms, Microsoft Lists, Microsoft Bookings etc.
    • Other third party apps are blocked, for example Apple Mail, Safari, Gmail, Chrome etc

Additional Requirements for Diocesan Associates

Note: The term 'associates' is used to describe St Albans Diocese board or committee members, volunteers, consultants and others that have typically been provided with an email address with access to diocesan information and data.

  • Associates who wish to access Microsoft 365 services, such as email, on an Apple or
Android device need to raise a support ticket with the diocesan IT Team so an appropriate paid license can be assigned. Without this license associates will not be able to sign in on Apple or Android devices.
  • Due to licensing restrictions, screen sizes above 10.1 inches can only view, not edit files.

Tip: If your device meets these requirements and you experience an error when signing in, Ensure your credentials are correct first by signing into https://office.com. Once confirmed, try removing the account from the app and add again.
