Troubleshooting and switching the audio output to a headset, external or computer speakers
Windows Computer

Connect the desired output device (headset, external speakers, or computer speakers) to your computer.

Right-click on the volume icon in the taskbar, located on the bottom right of your screen.

Select "Open Sound settings" from the context menu.

Under the "Output" section, select the desired output device from the drop-down menu. If you don't see the device you want to use, make sure it is properly connected to your computer or try using another USB port.

Adjust the volume level for the selected output device as needed.*
Fix sound or audio problems in Windows
Microsoft Teams
- Click on the three-dot icon, located on the top right corner of the screen.
- Select "Settings" from the drop-down menu.
- Click on "Devices" from the left-hand side menu.
- Under the "Speaker" section, select the desired output device from the drop-down menu. You can choose from your computer speakers, headset, or external speakers.
- Test the audio output by clicking on "Make a test call" or playing a video with sound.*
- If you cannot hear sound from a person in a meeting, their microphone might be on mute or they might need to configure their own microphone settings.
Zoom
- Click on your profile picture or initials, located on the top right corner of the screen.
- Select "Settings" from the drop-down menu.
- Click on the "Audio" tab from the left-hand side menu.
- Under the "Speaker" section, select the desired output device from the drop-down menu. You can choose from your computer speakers, headset, or external speakers.
- Test the audio output by playing a video with sound or joining a Zoom meeting.*
- If you cannot hear sound from a person in a meeting, their microphone might be on mute or they might need to configure their own microphone settings.
Troubleshooting speaker or microphone issues in the Zoom desktop client
*Note: You may need to close and reopen the Teams / Zoom app after changing the sound output device for the changes to take effect. Also, some devices may have their own software or settings that you can use to adjust the audio settings, so make sure that the device is properly configured in both the Windows sound settings and the Teams app settings.
