How do I setup MFA and login on BreatheHR?

Secure your BreatheHR account with multi-factor authentication / two-step verification

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is an additional verification step that makes your sign-in experience more secure. When you turn on MFA, you are prompted to enter a verification code from an in an authenticator app when you sign in to your account.


How to setup multi-factor authentication (MFA) on BreatheHR

Note: Using an authenticator app is the only option on BreatheHR. You can either use your diocesan iPhone, iPad, computer or a personal smartphone or tablet:
How do I use Oracle Authenticator on a Windows Computer?

  1. Log in at https://login.breathehr.com/
  2. You'll see a Set up two-factor authentication (2FA) guide with a QR code.

  3. Open the authenticator app you wish to use, eg:
    1. On a Smartphone / Tablet:
      1. Microsoft / Google / LastPass Authenticator etc
    2. On a Computer:
      1. Oracle Authenticator - link to instructions >
  4. In the authenticator app select + or Add Account and scan the QR code from the webpage to add the breathe hr account or select Can't scan the QR code? if you need to enter the code manually.
    1. In Microsoft Authenticator choose + then Other (Google, Facebook, etc.) >
    2. In Oracle Authenticator choose Add Account > Enter key manually > Others >
      1. Account = breathehr
      2. Key = (select Can't scan the QR code? on the BreatheHR webpage and copy that code into this field)
    3. If you wish to use multiple devices, scan the same QR code / enter the code manually in the authenticator app on every device.
  5. Copy the breathe hr code from the app into the User code field (highlighted in red above) on the webpage
    1. Note the breathe hr code will change every 30 seconds in the authenticator app and is only valid for that time period. If you don't enter it in time, use the next generated code in the app instead.
    2. Expired or no longer valid message? This is shown if you have refreshed or revisited the BreatheHR webpage and you now have a different QR code to the one you used in your authenticator app. Delete that account in your authenticator app and go back to step 4 above.
  6. Select Send user code (the green button)
  7. You are now logged in and will be asked for an authenticator app code for all subsequent logins.

How to log into BreatheHR with multi-factor authentication (MFA)

Note: Your BreatheHR MFA is different from your diocesan Microsoft 365 MFA.

  1. Go to https://login.breathehr.com/login
  2. Enter your BreatheHR username and password.
    1. If you have forgotten your password, select Forgot your password? and follow the onscreen instructions to reset.
  3. A pop-up box will appear asking for your one-time code.
  4. This code is not sent to you, you have to actively get the code from your authenticator app.
  5. Open the authenticator app you used when setting up MFA for BreatheHR, eg. Microsoft / Google / LastPass / Oracle Authenticator etc.
    1. If you have lost the authenticator app account please request a reset by raising a support ticket.
  6. Look for the account named breathehr or whatever you named it when setting up.
  7. It will display a code which is active for 30 seconds. Enter this code from the authenticator app into the BreatheHR webpage's Enter Code field.
  8. Press the green Submit button on the webpage.
    1. If the code you entered is invalid, the code may have expired in the authenticator app. Re-check the active code displaying in the authenticator app and try again. 

How to reset multi-factor authentication (MFA) on BreatheHR

If you lose your authenticator method or wish to set it up again, raise a support ticket and MFA will be reset on your account.
