      Teams Training: Join a Meeting as a Guest

      Recommended way to join as a guest to a Microsoft Teams online meeting hosted by the St Albans Diocese

      Free Microsoft accounts and older versions of Microsoft Teams do not have the full features available when joining a Teams meeting therefore we recommend joining as a guest using an internet browser in private or incognito mode without signing into a Microsoft account.

      Step 1: Check you are using a supported and updated internet browser

      Tip: Ensure your browser is up to date for full functionality.

      Step 2: Open internet browser in private / incognito mode

      Jump to: Microsoft Edge | Google Chrome | Mozilla Firefox | Safari

      Microsoft Edge: New InPrivate Window

      • In Microsoft Edge, select the 3 dots in the top right > Select New InPrivate window

      Google Chrome: New Incognito Window

      • In Google Chrome, select the 3 dots in the top right > Select New Incognito window

      Mozilla Firefox: New Private Window

      • In Mozilla Firefox, select 3 lines ☰ > Select New Private Windows

      Safari: New Private window

      • In Safari, select File > Select New Private Window

      Step 3a: Join the Teams meeting with the Meeting Link

      If you only have a meeting id and passcode go to step 3b >

      1. The Teams meeting link sent from the host will typically be shown as:
        1. Join the meeting now
        2. https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/{MeetingID}/{Passcode}
      2. Copy the link to your clipboard.
        1. On Computers: Right click on link > Copy
        2. On Mobile: Press and hold on link > Copy
      3. Paste the link into the private / incognito browser's address bar
        1. On Computers: Right click in address bar > Paste
        2. On Mobile: Tap inside the address bar > Paste
      4. Go to step 4 >

      Step 3b: Join the Teams meeting with the Meeting ID and Passcode

      1. Copy and paste the following link into the private / incognito browser's address bar:
        1. https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-teams/join-a-meeting
        2. NB. Clicking on the above link may not open the page in the private / incognito browser. Please copy and paste the link instead.
      2. Enter the meeting ID and passcode provided by the Teams meeting host
      3. Select Join a meeting
      4. Go to step 4 >

       

      Note: The instructions and images below are using Google Chrome on Windows. This may differ for other internet browsers and devices but the principles are the same.

      Step 4: Continue on the browser

      1. Select Cancel to opening the Microsoft Teams application
      2. Select Continue on this browser or Use the web app instead

      Step 5: Allow Teams to use your camera and microphone

      1. Select Allow to using your microphone and camera

      Step 6: Enter name, configure devices and join the Teams meeting

      1. Enter the name you want others in the meeting to see in the Type your name field
      2. Adjust the camera and audio devices if required
      3. Select Join now
