Recommended way to join as a guest to a Microsoft Teams online meeting hosted by the St Albans Diocese
Free Microsoft accounts and older versions of Microsoft Teams do not have the full features available when joining a Teams meeting therefore we recommend joining as a guest using an internet browser in private or incognito mode without signing into a Microsoft account.

Step 2: Open internet browser in private / incognito mode

Microsoft Edge: New InPrivate Window
- In Microsoft Edge, select the 3 dots in the top right > Select New InPrivate window
Google Chrome: New Incognito Window
- In Google Chrome, select the 3 dots in the top right > Select New Incognito window
Mozilla Firefox: New Private Window
- In Mozilla Firefox, select 3 lines ☰ > Select New Private Windows
Safari: New Private window
- In Safari, select File > Select New Private Window
Step 3a: Join the Teams meeting with the Meeting Link
If you only have a meeting id and passcode go to step 3b >
- The Teams meeting link sent from the host will typically be shown as:
- Join the meeting now
- https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/{MeetingID}/{Passcode}
- Copy the link to your clipboard.
- On Computers: Right click on link > Copy
- On Mobile: Press and hold on link > Copy
- Paste the link into the private / incognito browser's address bar
- On Computers: Right click in address bar > Paste
- On Mobile: Tap inside the address bar > Paste
- Go to step 4 >
Step 3b: Join the Teams meeting with the Meeting ID and Passcode
- Copy and paste the following link into the private / incognito browser's address bar:
- https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-teams/join-a-meeting
- NB. Clicking on the above link may not open the page in the private / incognito browser. Please copy and paste the link instead.
- Enter the meeting ID and passcode provided by the Teams meeting host
- Select Join a meeting
- Go to step 4 >
Note: The instructions and images below are using Google Chrome on Windows. This may differ for other internet browsers and devices but the principles are the same.
Step 4: Continue on the browser
- Select Cancel to opening the Microsoft Teams application
- Select Continue on this browser or Use the web app instead
Step 5: Allow Teams to use your camera and microphone
- Select Allow to using your microphone and camera
Step 6: Enter name, configure devices and join the Teams meeting
- Enter the name you want others in the meeting to see in the Type your name field
- Adjust the camera and audio devices if required
- Select Join now
